There’s No Summertime Sadness With Our Skincare Tips!
- By Rhea Kharge
Sun's out pretty much all the time, but summers bring along a bitter-sweet feeling! With all the good times we cherish, this season does take bring a toll on our skin. Besides, aren’t we all witnessing the hottest summer yet?
Summers has its own some baggage especially the struggle with dehydrated skin, sunburn (not the concert), acne breakouts, clogged pores, and the list goes on! Luckily, we know how to beat the heat. Here are the most simple yet effective skincare tips to get through summer-
1. Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate!
We can't stress enough on the importance of staying hydrated, especially during summers. The general recommendation is 2.7 liters a day for woman and 3.7 liters a day for men. Keeping a bottle on hand is a good way to stay hydrated throughout the day. Countless people doubt the power water holds and the benefits it can have on your skin and overall health. Our skin is our largest organ, and it protects us by storing water, preventing fluid loss, and regulating our temperature. The most natural way to achieve healthy, radiant, and glowing skin is to drink more water.
While keeping yourself hydrated is the key, keeping your skin hydrated is as crucial. Ingredients like Hyaluronic acid, Squalane & Pentavitin are hydration packed moisture barriers which leaves you skin feeling super plump & hydrated. Try adding skin products that contain these moisture boosting ingredients to your summer skincare routine.
Which reminds us, here's your reminder to drink water!
2. SPF is the real MVP
Sunscreen and blocks are the best way to protect yourself from the sun + blue UV rays. Although newer computer and television models do not emit harmful UV rays, but most TVs, computers and smartphones do emit other types of light that some studies show can be dangerous to your skin if exposed for an extended period of time. Use around two fingers amount of sunscreen and dab it gently all over your face, neck, ears and exposed area around the face. To ensure healthy skin on a sunny day, reapply your preferred every two hours (only while in the sun). Just a note to remember, clouds do not block UVA and UVB rays from penetrating your skin. So if you're going outside, you need to wear sunscreen, be it sunny, cloudy or rainy.
Tip: Replace any unused sunscreen from last year with a new one. Sunscreens aren't designed to last indefinitely. While purchasing a new one, look for UVA and UVB protection and ranging between SPF 30 to SPF 50.
3. Cleanser for the win
Getting fresh glowing skin in the summer is as easy as washing your face. Oh wait, it's just about it! The summer heat makes our skin oilier than usual. A good face wash is one that suits your skin and is capable of deeply yet gently cleansing your skin. You can further incorporate a toner in your regime to further cleanse your skin and refine pores post a good cleanse.
Tip: Choose gentle, alcohol-free cleansers with pH levels between 4.7 and 5.75
4. Exfoliation is a big Yes!
Here's the deal: No matter how hard you work to nourish your skin, it won't be of any use unless and until your skin is a blank canvas to work with. Every minute of the day, our bodies shed skin cells. As a result, exfoliating our skin is critical in order to remove dead skin and reveal the fresh, supple skin beneath. Exfoliating also aids in the removal of tan, the reduction of clogged pores, and the reduction of dryness for healthy-looking skin.
Tip: Use a chemical exfoliator instead of a physical exfoliator as the tiny particles can be abrasive and cause micro-tears on the skin's surface.
5. Moisturize DUH
Regardless of the weather, moisturising is essential. Be it a combination, oily or dry skin type, they all need a moisture pick-me-up. In the summer, the only difference is in the formulation of moisturisers. To avoid the greasy sweat look, use a light gel-cream formulation infused with hydrating ingredients such as Hyaluronic acid, Squalane, Pentavitin and so on. To end the moisture check list, try closing on one packed with anti-oxidants.
Tip: Humidity is not BFFs with heavy creams so it’s time for you to make a new best friend.
6. Wear your skin but better
Less is more when it comes to avoiding your makeup from creasing and looking cakey. During summer, your makeup tends to budge a lot more than any other season due to the humidity. As a result, it’s best to avoid wearing a lot of makeup. You can opt to move to tinted moisturisers, cheek tints, and highlighters to allow your skin to breathe. Use finely milled face powder to set the creams in place and avoid a patchy look. Natural looks work best in the scorching sun. To protect your lips and keep them looking fresh, use a gloss or a lip balm with an SPF of 15.
Tip: Want your makeup to last long this summer? Go easy on it!
These summertime tips are worth a try because they are simple to implement, can be incorporated into any skincare regimen, and are adaptable from person to person. They will assist you in restoring the natural balance, shine, and overall health of your skin. Summertime sadness, who that?
